The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution "On The Restaurant Scene"
Review
When it comes to finding pizza
and wings, East Cobbers have no lack of options.
What they were missing, figured Andy Erbacher
and Tony Quirante, was seafood. The two
partners teamed up to open AJ's Famous Seafood
and Poboys, a reflection of their upbringings
near water.
"I grew up in Florida with coastal dining,"
Erbacher said. "And my partner is from the
Texas Gulf coast. So if we get around
seafood, we know what to do with it."
What they're doing is a casual menu of
sandwiches and seafood platters. Crawfish,
shrimp, catfish, softshell crabs, oysters and -
for the landlubbers - turkey, pork and beef are
served on buns or po'boy loaves. Platters
of the same are served with fries, slaw and
hushpuppies. Shrimp and crawfish salads go
well with the chicken, seafood or sausage gumbo
bowls. Peel-and-eat shrimp come by the
pound or platter. There's also a
muffuletta, the Louisiana version of a hero with
meats and cheeses piled on Italian bread.
Specials based on the fresh catch change daily.
AJ's has seats for 40 inside and 16 on the
shaded patio. A beer and wine list is
offered, along with kid-friendly burgers,
grilled cheese and pasta.
